Snug Haven Farm PRODUCE donations (over 2000 lbs since April 6th).   How YOU can HELP!

FEEDING PEOPLE IS WHAT WE DO AND WE NEED YOUR HELP Snug Haven Farm is accepting (asking for) pledges of support to help with the costs associated of growing, harvesting, washing, packing, and delivering our produce. Snug Haven Farm’s goal is to donate between 3500-5000 lbs of produce. Judy and I are looking for suggested pledges of $50 from you to help us with this cause (although we will not turn away larger or smaller pledges). That comes out to 1-2 cents a pound for food we deliver. We are off to a fast start with donations, as April is normally our largest sales month of the year. The goal is within reach and our story is below.

SHUTTING DOWN THE FARM On March 31st we sent our employees home and shut down the farm. It was 2½ weeks into Governor Ever’s order, when we realized our washing and sorting system, which is set up for winter, was too small for the safety of our employees and family. We had 3 people sorting orders in an 8 foot by 16 foot space.  Snug Haven Farm is set up for winter work and our summer work is done in the same areas.  If one person had gotten the virus and did not know it, 8 people could be exposed.  Judy and I are of the age that it is considered an underlying condition.  We are working on correcting the workspace now.   We sent everyone home and told them we would help them through this time.

OUR STORY ON HOW WE STARTED DONATING Our crops were ready to harvest as April is our largest sales month of the year.  I could either sit around, get fat and annoy Judy or we could get as much food as possible to those in need.  I tried calling a couple of pantries and of course they were not able to answer as everyone was trying to figure things out.  I had also heard that at that time pantries were not taking fresh food.  One of our delivery sites mentioned the the FEED Kitchen was delivering meals to Boys’ and Girls’ clubs.  I did not think much of it.  Then we reached out to a friend in the food pantry industry and she offered to help us look for a situation Snug Haven Farm could donate to.  She also mentioned Feed Kitchen.  So, I had this great idea, why don’t we get in touch with FEED Kitchen.

HOW YOU CAN DONATE AND HELP The FEED Kitchen said they could handle everything we could bring them. Next step was reaching out to a couple of friends and asking if they would donate to create a pot of money.  Then we asked our customers to pledge support for us and their donation would be matched by this pot of $.  While our matching funds have run out, we are still harvesting and could use your help - we are still accepting donations. If so inclined, please send check to SNUG HAVEN FARM or you can venmo Snug Haven Farm, and please put donation in the memo. If you read this far, thank you. Take great care all - we are working on this and will keep you all updated as we forge ahead. Stay healthy and help those in need.
